Our Team
“Creative. Curious. Innovative. Inspiring!” - How our clients describe us.

Ed Mattingly -Founder
“I am a problem solver at heart first, as an engineer, then in business. My passion is empowering leaders to co-design a vision for their organization that is so compelling that stakeholders are thrilled to get on board. It’s rewarding to accelerate our client’s change agenda in a way that feels good to them and gains immediate traction.”
Ed’s clients describe him as a motivational bridge-builder toward a shared strategic goal. He has helped hundreds of clients across industries and government agencies align in how technology can improve experiences and business outcomes. Familiar with large and complex initiatives, Ed is known to bring his humor to diffuse charged situations.
Prior to founding Crucial Conversation, Ed built his broad expertise through global leadership positions in strategic business development and sales, and corporate venturing (in-house VC), and consulting practice development at both startups and large enterprises such as Cisco, HPE, Agilent and NetApp. Ed’s background in both engineering and business affords him a rare view of the enterprise that is both holistic and nuanced.

Lloyd Dangle
“I’m a bit of an adrenaline junkie when it comes to high-stakes business conversations. I love helping teams unleash their collective imagination and critical thinking skills so they make their best decisions. This is where visual storytelling works as a catalyst.”
Over the past decade Lloyd has led and facilitated strategy engagements with over 150 companies and organizations in 69 industries on 5 continents, for companies including Hewlett Packard and Amazon Web Services.
Formerly a syndicated political cartoonist, Lloyd is passionate about using visuals in crucial conversations to help people navigate complex challenges. Drawing comics made Lloyd masterful at distilling complex information into critical nuggets and depicting them in simple visual stories. He designs meeting experiences for teams to help design together and get rapid results.
Companies welcomed Lloyd’s visual storytelling acumen to help them conceptualize and explain their products. He creates visual stories and models live in strategy meetings, both face-to-face and virtual, enabling leaders to cut through the complexity of their situations and make faster, better aligned decisions.
